When I grow up I want to be a ???
By Amber Foster - May 23, 2013 | No CommentsFor some students picking a major is a no-brainier. Many children know early on what they want to do in the professional world and stick with it, but for a vast majority of students this is not the case. If you are just starting your freshman year and have no idea what degree you want to end up with in four years, or you are well on your way to graduation and can’t decide what major to declare, consider these following tips to help you navigate your way to a future of success. Tip one: Do your generals first. Everyone has the same general requirements to graduate, so be sure to sign up for these classes first. Chances are you will find classes that really... -
R.A. ON DUTY!
By Max Rodriguez - May 23, 2013 | No Comments(Knock, Knock)-“R.A. ON DUTY!” That’s the last thing a campus resident wants to hear, especially if that resident is partaking in prohibited activities (allegedly). Well as a Residential Assistant for Office of Housing and Residential Life, I sometimes have to bust people who are break housing rules. To be honest that is the least enjoyable part of the job, at least for me. Sometimes you might know the person who got caught and it could be a little awkward, especially if you have class with them the next day… SO UNCOMFORTABLE! Some people might have heard that R.A.’s are “fun suckers” and that we are out to bust parties. I was one who thought like that my first year, but now as a current... -
Invest in yourself by using campus resources!
By Loydie Burmah - May 23, 2013 | No CommentsAs I transition into different phases of my education I realize that as a student I have deprived myself of a lot of advantages and opportunities if only I had used the resources available to me. At times I would focus my attention on what I did not have available to me, versus what I did. However, I realize this as a lesson gained, not lost. Fellow students, I have a confession I would like to exhale off my chest. I have not been fully exploiting our campus’s resources like I should actively be doing. *** Consider the following sentences an explanation rather than an excuse. I have had tunnel vision during my first years here at CSUSB, my focus and energy particularly placed in completing... -
Safe Travels
By Chelsea Galvez - May 19, 2013 | No CommentsThose of you that don’t know, I live in the High Desert and commute to and from campus two days a week. It’s a pretty easy thirty-minute drive, and nothing too crazy ever happens. However, I follow a pretty simple set of guidelines that ensure a safe and timely commute. First things first, I am always sure to never ever have below half a tank of gasoline in my car. This is really in case of emergencies and things like that. There may be mad traffic and the last thing you would want to worry about is having gas in your car. Second, I always try and leave an hour and ten minutes before class. If I have an 8 a.m. class, I always try... -
Interview Coming Up?
By Brenda Toro Quintana - May 16, 2013 | 2 CommentsHere are a few things to consider when preparing for an interview. Research. Before your interview, get familiar with the company or site you are interviewing for. Showing them you know what they are about is a plus. Dress appropriately. Depending on the company, store etc. Always dress in professional attire to show them you will go the long mile to impress them. You want them to put a professional face to the name. This means absolutely NO distracting jewelry, logo or printed shirts, too much make-up, messy hair, low cut shirts (ladies), tennis shoes or sandals, and absolutely under any circumstance NO JEANS! Always be early! Show up early to the interview location or be ready by the phone (if it’s a phone interview)....
